K, so for my ballroom dancing class, the instructor wants us guys to wear fedoras.

And I am all making faces at the idea because COOOONNOOTAATIOOONS.

I thought I was pretty insulated from geek culture (OH LOOK AT ME I AM PAINTING MYSELF AS THE OUTSIDER AGAIN) but FEDORAS. So I guess I am a geek who doesn't want to wear a fedora because of CONNOTATIONS. I wonder if anyone else is making the same faces. The instructor isn't; she lives in a space where dancing culture is more important and fedoras are manly. Somehow it has been put in my head that a fedora conveys a desperate sense of entitlement. WHY ISN'T THE WORLD GIVING ME WHAT I DESERVE? LOOK AT ME!

*disclaimer: I own a straw fedora. It got run over. I used to wear it even after it got run over until it became too much of a bother, even though it kept the sun out of my eyes. Also I started feeling like a creep for wearing it.

**double disclaimer: THE WORLD is code for something.

Bowties are okay with me, though. Bowties are awesome.

Also today, someone asked me what culture is. I gave her a very Dawkinsesque culture is survival and adaption and evolution type answer. I haven't read any Dawkins, save for snippets here and there. I refrained from using the word meme.

Why am I rambling? I was drunk yesterday, not today.
