Yes, that subject line isn't a mistake
The Lioness and her mane. The Lioness has a mane. All depictions of Amascut's half-leonine form on in game wall decorations, out of game lore supplements, etc., (not that there are much, since Amascut has a bit of an iconoclastic habit) show her as having a mane. Apparently this is not a mistake or due to the fact that is is hard to depict a lion(ess) without a mane in an unambiguous way.
Heck, sometimes depictions of Sekhmet show her sporting a mane. Well, a headdress that looks a lot like a mane, anyhow.
I should have known. Amascut's hair is important to her. She keeps it red and long in all her disguises, despite the extremely conspicuous hue, because it is that important. Its her mane. No wonder she was sulky when I let plot singe it off and no wonder she complains about the lack of a red mane whenever I have played her as a cat. The thing is, I have been wary of giving her a mane when she is in a big or small cat form because it is so male and a bit... a lot special snowflake in a look at me my name is Mary Sue way. But it was always an itchy thing an the back of my head.
And besides that, somehow I always managed to play her as dominant or trying to manipulate relationships to become dominant eventually. Hail to the King, she's actually a queen.
Anywhoo it seems that the game's developers are settling on her character model in the Stolen Hearts/Diamond in the Rough quest as her iconic look, since the concept art for the Avatar of Amascut for the coming Halloween mini-event looks derived from it. Also from the Halloween event, mockups of what the area that will hold the mini-event will look like. And surprise surprise, a male lion represents Amascut's formerly major place in the underworld instead of a lioness.
( pictures below the cut! )
Also, Amascut's devourer beast concepts are remarkably like the aliens in Attack the Block which is awesome.
