I just found an interesting file while working my way through the LAII physical files. Granted, there are many interesting files, but this one caught my eye because of the unusual labeling on the file folder containing it.

Litertaurl Oral Pocaresca

It caught my eye because there is no way that can be Spanish, Portuguese, Nahuatl, or any Uto-Aztecan language. It might be a misspelling, but it looks like some poor mishmash of Spanish and Uto-Aztecan.

Anyhow, the contents. It looks like Spanish Picaresque literature. It is even in oldtimey Spanish. And, the best part, it is an account of the settlement of New Mexico, but being a picaresque, it is most probably fictional. Well, it is fictional. The devil makes an appearance.

It looks like it was transcribed, but I have no idea if it was really an oral story or transcribed from an old book. It is 91 pages long, done on a typewriter, and there is a first draft of sorts with corrections and accent marks penciled in. It is a picaresque in eight cantos, and the first draft is missing the first canto.

I may type it up and format it. I need practice typing anyway. Whether I will share it with the world or not depends on what I find out about the source of this. That will have to wait after spring break though, as that is when the Spanish professor I asked about it said she will have free time.
